Honorary membership is offered by the CSZ to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to Zoology. Ordinarily, this individual’s contribution will have been to Zoology in Canada, and the individual will have had some relationship to the CSZ. Honorary membership is a lifetime appointment, is restricted to 20 living members, and is the highest honour the Society confers.

Objectives
Honorary membership is conferred to recognise an outstanding, lifetime contribution to Zoology. This contribution may be by way of contribution to knowledge and understanding (as per the F.E.J. Fry Award), but takes a broader mandate including outstanding service to the Society or to Zoology in the community, Administrative and Policy contributions, education, and mentoring. Honorary membership is restricted to 20 living members.
Award
The recipient will receive a scroll, and be recognised at the AGM and/or Banquet at the Annual Meeting of the CSZ subsequent to the Honorary Member’s election, as well as on the Society’s website. Honorary members will receive free registration and a banquet ticket to the annual meeting subsequent to their election, and a free banquet ticket at subsequent CSZ annual meetings. Honorary members do not pay membership fees, and remain in good standing provided they do not violate the Society’s bylaws in a manner that would see a regular member’s membership terminated. Appointment as an honorary member is for life – deceased honorary members will automatically be inducted into the forthcoming ‘CSZ Hall of Fame’.
Source of Funds
CSZ funds from membership fees.
Frequency of Offer
Currently, Honorary Membership is restricted to 20 living members. Prior to making a nomination, please contact the Chair of the Recognition committee (usually the Past President) to enquire about availability of places.

All zoologists are eligible for honorary membership.
